PROJECT & DESCRIPTION
“Impermanence” explores the sequential properties of facial expressions through a real-time installation. The order and duration of these expressions play a significant role in the perception and categorization. The intention of the installation is to provide participants with a deeper understanding of their own expressions by using facial detection to convert the expressions into real time data and create a multi-sensory experience.

Week 10

Translating Emotions to Visuals

We prioritized user experience in shaping our design, incorporating valuable feedback from testers to guide our decisions. We harnessed Perlin Noise with diverse parameters to create a continuous, yet constantly changing pattern. The canvas gracefully transitions from left to right, with the noise gradually 'unfolding' in a rightward direction.

As depicted, we have successfully transformed five detected emotions from our facial recognition API into visual representations that mirror facial expressions.

Color Translation

  • Yellow Prominent Curves - Happy
  • Slow Blue Wave Pattern - Sad
  • Short & Jaggered Red Curves - Angry
  • Horizontal Beige flowing Curve - Surprised
  • Grey Scale Curves - Neutral
